Compression of Neural Networks

We are looking for candidates for 2 Project Associate positions to work on a rigorous understanding of the compression of neural networks for efficient deployment for server-scale applications. The positions will be under Professors Govindrajan Ramaswamy and Chiranjib Bhattacharyya. Candidates with an inclination toward research, or who plan to continue in graduate programs are highly encouraged to join. Priority will be given to candidates with industry experience in either ML or Computer Systems.

Qualifications:

  • BE/BTech or ME/MTech in CS/EE/ECE or related disciplines;
  • Familiarity with deep learning
  • Good understanding of computer architecture;
  • Working knowledge of pytorch.

Desired Skills:

  • Profiling tools such as muprof and vtune
  • Familiarity with commonly used neural network architectures, such as ResNets, VGGs, Transformers, ViTs
  • Familiarity with model compression, in particular pruning.
Interested candidates can apply by sending their CVs with relevant details and experience to: efficientml.iisc@gmail.com. on or before Dec. 1, 2023. We also strongly encourage candidates to share their GitHub profiles and any relevant projects they completed previously. Applications submitted after the deadline may be considered if the position(s) remain vacant.

Social Robotics

We are looking for candidates looking to work in application of AI in Human Robot Interaction(HRI). This is a short-term full-time position on the area of Social Robotics for Special Education. For an introduction to the kind of work we have done so far, this is a short project video and the associated publication.

We have two positions. Interested candidates can send their resume to socialrobotics.mllab@gmail.com.

Project Intern

They will be responsible in conducting the HRI experiments in IISc campus. Responsibilities include monitoring and operating the robots during the experiments, creating web interfaces for communication with the robot, storing and annotating the collected data. This is not a remote position, candidates are expected to be on campus on weekdays during the study period. There will be a diverse set of tasks that can be taken up: interns can learn to apply SOTA techniques to create robot behaviour modules spanning areas such as vision, speech, navigation. Opportunities for publication in conferences targeting HRI, field robotics, AI for Social Good.

Desired Skillset

  • B.tech/BCA in Computer Science or equivalent discipline.
  • Experience with Python or Strong programming background.
  • Experience with Full-Stack Website Development.
  • Good to have experience (have done a course/project) in one or more areas like Robotics, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Speech Recognition.
  • (Optional) Familiarity with Behavioral Coding, Human Computer Interaction.

Research Associate

They will be responsible for designing and implementing complex robot behaviours such as trajectory planning under various conditions for motor activities with the children, co-ordinating with the occupational therapists of the children to design the tasks with robot car, and creating SOTA speech recognition models for robust, real-time use by the Special Educators during the HRI study. This is not a remote position. Candidates who have done projects in similar areas would be preferred. Opportunities for publication in conferences targeting HRI, field robotics, AI for Social Good.

Desired Skillset

  • B.tech/M.tech/PhD in Computer Science or an equivalent discipline.
  • Strong foundations in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Robotics.
  • Experience with Computer vision based navigation for robotics.
  • Experience with Python and OpenCV or equivalent library.
  • Experience with Pytorch/Tensorflow.
  • (Optional) Familiarity with Speech modeling, ASR, TTS, and end-to-end Speech systems.
